Years ago there was a man named Adam McCoy, who wanted nothing more then to help people.  He was a genius among men.  His IQ was beyond the scale, and he was born that way.

To help others he became a scientist.  His ability couldn't' be mastered and soon he found himself working for the U.S. Government in a program to help cure diseases, mostly in children.  He gladly took to it and made many breakthroughs that cured such things as cancer, AIDs, birth defects and the like.  He was hailed as a hero by the parents of these children.

What the parents and even Adam didn't know the children and a few adults were  used as test subjects in a series of covert government experiments.

The children grew and started to show abilities not even the government expected.  The children of the adults, started to show such abilities as well.  The government wanted to control these New Mutants for their own purpose. That was when Adam found out. The government did everything to hide this from the world.

He quit and started his own group of New Mutants, taking several children and a few adults with him, their mission is to seek out their fellow New Mutants, help them come to terms with their abilities, and protect them from those who want only to exploit their powers.
