Brown Distinguishing Marks: Deep
dimples when she smiles, a few scars here and there,
nothing major
Powers/Abilities: Besides the
basic powers of a magical witch, such as scrying and
spellcasting, Tory has the ability of telepathy. She
can hear the thoughts of people around her, and can
sometimes pick up broadcasts of people in distress.
She's been known to use this ability in her job. She
can't consciously project her thoughts to someone else,
but if she's under enough distress or panic, she can.
Hobbies: Soccer
(plays on the department team), running, kick boxing and
going to drive in movies
Physiological
Background: Tory is a normal, well
adjusted young woman. She likes to be spontaneous and
goofy at times, and isn't afraid to poke fun at herself
to lighten a heavy situation. She's fiercely loyal.
She's not hard to get to know, but because of her
ability, there's that part of her that's closed off to
the world. Personality Quirks:
She's disorganized. Her apartment is a mess,
with clothes, books and papers all over the place. She
doesn't cook, depending on take out or Mom's left overs.
Addicted to caffeine, especially Starbucks, and junk
food. If it has trans fat, more sodium than is
preferable for life, or even MSG, guaranteed she'll eat
it by the ton. She's a horrible driver, and has the
distinction of being the only inspector on the force to
have their license revoked.
History:
Tory had a very normal
upbringing. Her father is a teacher at a local high
school, and her mother is a florist. Her mother,
Eleanor, however, was not so normal. She was a witch
from a long line of witches, who left it all behind upon
falling in love with Richard.
Eleanor became
the stereotypical soccer mom to her two children, RJ and
Tory, hoping that neither of her children would inherit
her Wiccan blood, feeling it would make them targets and
put them in danger. She'd had a few run ins with
warlocks over the years, she knew what she was talking
about. Her son RJ seems to have missed the "curse," but
her daughter was not so lucky.
By
the time Tory was eight, she was able to hear the
thoughts of those around her. First they had her
quietly tested for mental illness, then Eleanor was
forced to come clean. Richard was distressed, and left
the family for three months to think things through.
After one month he came and got his children, and they
spent that summer break on a road trip across the
country, leaving Eleanor in San Francisco. But
Richard's love for Eleanor and his family overcame
everything else, and by that September, the family was
reunited.
Eleanor taught her daughter techniques
so she wouldn't be overwhelmed, which helped, and
allowed Tory to go back to pretending to be normal. She
was never instructed to hide it, but just to keep it
quiet, and off the radar.
She grew up into a
jock, one of the guys, and was never sure of her own
beauty. And found after a while she didn't care. She
was drawn to law enforcement as much as her parents
discouraged that (again, not wanting to see their child
in any danger). She got a degree in criminal justice,
and went onto the academy, where her physical fitness
and gutsy personality won her the respect of her
classmates, who once saw her as the token female.
Once she was hired to the SFPD, she was paired up
with Thomas Trudeau, and they became fast friends,
rising through the ranks together as homicide
inspectors. She kept her ability quiet, until finally
Tommy cornered her and wanted to know how she knew
things when the evidence hadn't been presented yet. How
she knew to go to a crime scene when it hadn't been
called in. She finally confessed, in the knick of time
really. While under fire from a suspect, she was pinned
down and panicked, and Tommy heard her voice in his head
(one of three times she'd done that in her life).
Tommy is her partner, and her best friend. Vetting
out dates and sharing war stories during their morning
runs, and eating bad take out in stake out cars. He's
the one that pulls her back and helps her keep her
secret from everyone else.
