Powers/Abilities:

Soren like all mermaids have superhuman strength and agility, can see in the dark, read emotions and have a connection with other sea creatures. Their also drawn to protect the innocent and shift from his mermaid form to human form when not in the water.

Hobbies: Reading, music, swimming, astronomy, learning of new cultures. Enjoys martial arts, dancing, running and watching movies.

Physiological Background: Soren like most mermaids is proud of his heritage and family lineage, has strong emotions and often intense with his personality. Loves to laugh and have fun but also enjoys just sitting back and relaxing and watching those around him go about their day.

Soren is on land because of the fact he dishonored his family, as a outcast he came to the surface to life and try and bring honor back to his family. He longs to go home but at present he devotes himself to protecting those in danger.

Personality Quirks: Soren won't eat any red meat, but has found a fondness for alcoholic drinks. Can't drink coffee, it makes him sick and he prefers to have a kelp protein drink for breakfast every morning.

History:

Soren was born in the forth year of King Aerm's reign, born the only son of Lelous and Cera, the two welcomed the birth of their first child with jubilation and awe. They named him Soren. He was the light of their world and as time passed, they welcomed a second child, Melora, a sister into their family.

Soren excelled in school and loved learning about the surface dwellers and often thought of what it would be like to live up there, and walk on land. It wasn't a subject his father liked to discuses as in their culture anyone living on the surface was subservient in nature. Soren didn't agree with that belief, but as part of his culture it was something he had learned to accept.

As he became older and more of his own man, his ideas became to cause great strife within his family and the mermaid community they lived in. The final straw was the fact he openly defied his father and went to the surface to see if what they said about the surface dwellers were true. His father was furious and asked him to leave his house for putting the family, the city and their culture in danger.

It was a great dishonor for Soren to suffer, and for once he didn't know where he was going to turn. Then he felt himself drawn to the surface where he emerged and took a surname of Rio, after King Rio the great, and began to fashion a life of living on the surface.

Soren took a job as a martial arts instructor and found himself an apartment, it was couple of weeks after having been in San Francisco that he found himself drawn to people who were in trouble. First it started out with criminals, such as purse snatchers and robbers, but now it has developed into those being targeted by demonic forces.

Special Notes: Soren is a mermaid, a race of creatures whose evolution took place in the water. The mermaids come from Eloria and have supernatural abilities, including superhuman strength and agility, can see in the dark, read emotions and have a connection with other sea creatures. Mermaids usually only have one name, a first name, and because of their proud culture they do not often have nicknames. Mermaids do not age as rapidly as others, they are a species that live quite a long time. Soren is 61 years old and that is considered relatively young for his culture. Mermaids who live on land have to swim at least once a day otherwise their skin becomes to dry and will result in skin flaking. Also if their legs get wet they turn back into fins. Soren wears a medallion that prevents this from happening.
