Physiological
Background: From the age of 4 he
was the responsible one taking care of his little
brothers and his mother. His entire identity is wrapped
up in taking care of them. The men his mother brought
home were often abusive, and she would sometimes use
herself or the boys to pay for her habits. He would take
the abuse if it meant keeping it from his brothers. He
would pay any price to keep them safe. He doesn't allow
his weaknesses or vulnerability to show, any more than
he allows his physical pain to show. But he is broken
inside. He blames himself for one brothers death, and
his inability to get his mother to get off drugs.
Personality Quirks:
Hyper vigilant, calls his brother daily, even
when the foster parents wont let him talk to him.
Doesn't drink or do drugs. When the day is rough or when
he cant ignore the PTSD any longer he takes it out on a
punching bag. He loves classical literature, and old
movies. Doesn't believe in God, angels or the
supernatural.
History:
Logan was born
and raised in the Tenderloin. The worst neighborhood in
San Francisco. His grandmother was a drug addict and
sometimes prostitute in her youth, and passed that on to
her daughter as soon as she was old enough. Angela had
been 14 when Hillary was born, and Hillary in turn had
been 16 when Logan was born. David came 2 years later,
and James 5 years after that. There had been other
pregnancies, some gotten rid of, some miscarriages due
to the drugs.
From the time he was 4,Logan had
been the responsible one in his family. He was
responsible for taking care of his little brother, and
responsible for everything that went wrong in their too
small apartment. Section 8 and foodstamps kept a roof
over their heads and food on the table, but everything
else the women used to support their habit. The power
was off almost more than it was on. they would get the
money together to turn it on when they had word that the
social workers were coming to check in on the boys.
By
9 when his youngest brother James was born, Logan was
running errands for the local gang to help pay for his
mothers habit. Sometimes they would toss the kid a
couple bucks out of sympathy and he would spend it on
diapers or what ever his brothers needed.
The
men his mother and grandmother would bring home were
often abusive, and Logan would take the blame for things
his brothers did so that he would get the beatings
instead of them. He learned at an early age that you
didn't show pain, or displeasure unless you wanted more
of it.
He was 12 when his grandmother died of an
overdose, and it was one of the happier days of his
life, although it devastated his brother David, who took
to consoling his mother, which included smoking weed
with her, and eventually other things. Within a year,
David was lost to him, and sucked completely into his
mothers world. Logan swore that wasn't going to happen
to James.
He joined the local gang at 13 to
further protect his family. The gang took care of their
own, including their immediate family. Which meant that
the men his mother brought home stopped pounding on him
or his little brothers. they didn't hit her in front of
them either. it didn't make their lives great, or
even good, but it made them better.
Logan pushed
his youngest brother to stay in school, which meant he
had to stay in school himself. He kept the kid clean and
on top of things, even if it meant that James was angry
with him or claimed to hate him. One of them was going
to get out of hell alive, and he was going to make sure
it was James.
David died when Logan was 16, and
he blamed himself for it. He had given up on the boy,
and that made it his fault as far as Logan was
concerned. He didn't let his mothers grief drag James
into her habit. He dropped out of school then, and
became more deeply entrenched in the gang, using it to
support his family, and have the backing to toss his
mother out of needed. He was the man of the house, they
were his rules, his demands instead of hers.
This worked until he was 18. Hillary found herself a man
that she thought could give her control of her life back
and brought him home to live with them. It was fine at
first. they didn't like each other but he didn't do
anything more than yell at them in the beginning. But
one day Logan came home to find James crying and covered
with fresh bruises.
He found the man and lost
his temper. He beat him until he was barely alive. the
only thing that saved the mans life was that his mother
had called the police to save her lover.
James
was put into foster care immediately, and Logan was
taken to jail for attempted murder. Because of his lack
of remorse and gang ties he was sentenced to 10 years.
He got his GED while in prison and in 6 years was
released on parole for good behavior.
During his
time in prison he tried to stay in touch with James. He
calls the house every day, but usually only makes it
through once a week if that often. They cant keep them
completely apart, because the state allows for
supervised visits, but they do thier best to limit
contact.
Henry is his parole officer which leads
to his getting a job at P3
