History:

Josh was the product of an illicit affair, and has never met his father. He doesn’t even know his name. Neither does he particularly care. his childhood was a lonely one, even if he was close to his mother. He moved through grades so quickly that he didn’t make friends with kids his own age and the older kids tended to torment him. He was relieved to graduate high school at 12 and move on to college.

He didn’t know what he wanted to major in, in the beginning. 12 is a young age for anyone to know what they want so in the beginning he studied entomology, Bugs were always fascinating to young boys, literature, art. But in time he lost interest in those and studied anthropology instead. From there he moved on to a joint major in Sociology and Psychology. He achieved his first doctorate at 21. Knowing no one would take a psychologist seriously who had yet to buy his first legal drink, he stayed in school and switched to criminology.

He met Amy while studying Criminology, and they began to date, she was an art history major. He was in his second year of Criminology when he was recruited into the FBI. He was at 23 the youngest member of the behavioral analysis unit.

A year later he and Amy married and in the beginning they were very happy. But as his work began to take more of his time as well as his continuing education, the marriage started to sour.  The final straw was two years after that when he was captured for two days by an unsub they had been tracking. Joshua was tortured, and nearly died. It was this case that not only made his career, but ended his marriage.

The man who had taken him had been possessed by a demon. He was rescued by members of the Center and assisted in the exorcism ( doing as he was told the entire time, and trying to stay conscious as he hid that he was brutally low on blood). After the demon was gone, they learned that the body was dead already. They called an ambulance for Josh after he passed out. They gave him the credit for the collar, and left before he had even regained consciousness.

His nightmares after that were horrific and Amy was unable to take living with him any longer. She left while he was on assignment in the north west  and he came home to find divorce papers waiting on the kitchen counter.   He has spent the next few years doing nothing but work, and advanced up the chain of command to now lead the team he was at one time the youngest member of.   He has stayed in contact with the center, feeding them information when he had it and helping out where possible.
